GIE CIBAO IMMORTALS SELECTED AS FIRST TEAM FOR 2027 USBASKET CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

COLUMBUS, GA — The road to UCL2K27 has officially begun.

The GIE Cibao Immortals, representing Santiago, Dominican Republic, have been selected as the first official team to participate in the 2027 USBasket Champions League, scheduled for July 10–14, 2027, in Columbus, Georgia.

The Immortals will hold a special position in the inaugural field as the one team selected to represent the Caribbean region.

A CHAMPIONSHIP TRADITION

The selection comes after years of success for one of the most accomplished organizations to emerge from the Cibao region.

The Immortals have built their reputation through the LDC Superior League, United Cup of Champions and United Pro Invitational, developing from a Santiago-based professional club into an organization capable of competing internationally.

Their résumé includes multiple LDC championships and cups, United Cup success and international competition in both the Dominican Republic and the United States.

In 2026, the Immortals added another major trophy to their collection by capturing the United Pro Invitational championship in Atlanta, completing an undefeated 4–0 run.

Now the organization takes its next step onto the USBasket Champions League stage.

FIVE YEARS OF PARTNERSHIP IN SANTIAGO

Behind the growth of the Immortals is team owner Jermaine Barnes, CEO of Trinity United, LLC, and a long-standing partnership with the ABASACA Basketball Federation in Santiago.

For the past five years, Barnes and Trinity United have worked alongside ABASACA President Jose Luis Aracena to develop professional and international basketball opportunities in Santiago.

That relationship has included the operation and development of the LDC Superior League and the United Cup of Champions, bringing together Dominican and international players, coaches and organizations for competition in Santiago.

The partnership between Trinity United, ABASACA and President Aracena has played an important role in establishing the platform that allowed the Immortals to grow from a Cibao-based club into an organization competing internationally.

The selection of the Immortals for UCL2K27 represents another chapter in that five-year relationship and another opportunity for basketball from Santiago to be represented on an international stage.

THE STARS OF CIBAO

At the center of the Immortals' success has been a core of Dominican stars led by Ameth Gil, Angel Rivas and Oliver Garcia.

Ameth Gil has become one of the defining players in the history of the organization. The longtime Immortals star became the first player in LDC history to surpass 5,000 combined points across league, playoff and cup competition while establishing himself among the most prolific scorers of the LDC and United Cup era.

Angel Rivas has built an equally impressive championship résumé with the Immortals. The veteran star was named 2026 LDC Most Valuable Player after helping lead the club to a 12–3 record and its fourth LDC regular-season championship. His career with the organization includes multiple championships, Felipe Lopez Cups and United Cup titles.

Oliver Garcia, the 2022 LDC Player of the Year, has been another major piece of the Immortals' rise. One of the Dominican Republic's established professional scorers, Garcia has represented the organization during multiple stages of its development while also competing at the LNB level.

Together, Gil, Rivas and Garcia have helped establish the championship standard associated with GIE Cibao Immortals basketball.
